Approximately 61,000 vote-by-mail ballots will be mailed to voters starting Monday (July 27) for the Special District Mail Ballot Election on August 25. Ballots should arrive in mailboxes by the end of the week. In order to be counted in the election, voted ballots must be received at the Registrar of Voters office by 8 p.m. on August 25, or be postmarked on or before Election Day and received no later than three days after Election Day.
RIVERSIDE – Riverside County proclaimed a local emergency on Tuesday following damage from Hurricane Dolores, which brought more than six inches of precipitation to the Desert Center area that collapsed a bridge and section of Interstate 10.
With the recent storms, there is plenty of standing water throughout Riverside County and health officials are urging residents to empty outdoor containers that may have inadvertently filled with rain to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illness.
Anyone interested in running for offices on the Nov. 3 general election ballot may take out candidate filing papers beginning today (July 13). Papers must be filed by 5 p.m. on Aug. 7. If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office will be extended to 5 p.m. on Aug. 12 for everyone except the incumbent.
A cleanup of contaminated soil and ash that was created when fire consumed chemical-laced grape stakes has been completed on property near Avenue 64 and Dale Kiler Road in Mecca. The contractor hired by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control removed material in the area that most recently burned, where the need for immediate action was identified.
