Due to recent public complaints about mosquito bites and an increase in the number of mosquitos trapped in the Beaumont area during routine surveillance, Riverside County will apply an ultra-low volume of a material designed to reduce adult mosquito populations in two separate areas of the city.
The Idyllwild grinding facility will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays effective Sept. 2. Greenwaste will be accepted between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. but the facility is closed from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch. The facility will be closed the remainder of the week, including Saturdays.
A 73-year-old woman who lives in western Riverside County is the first confirmed human case of West Nile virus in the county this year, said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the county’s public health officer.
Starting Friday (Aug. 12), Riverside County health officials will be updating the number of confirmed Zika cases through its “Disease Watch” section on the Public Health website.
Anyone interested in running for office in the Nov. 8 general election may file papers for candidacy until 5 p.m. Friday (Aug. 12). If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline is extended for that office, for non-incumbents only, to 5 p.m. Aug. 17.
